Sports Day 2010
SMT’s Annual Sports Day is just around the corner -- Friday, May 21st, 8:00 am to 2:30 pm at Barrington Park. For those newcomers, Sports Day has become a tradition that our students and families look forward to each year with great enthusiasm. It is an entire day of organized sporting events in which every student participates, much like the format of the Olympics. The students are organized in teams and there is friendly competition between those teams to win the day!
All family members are invited to cheer, watch, volunteer, judge, cook, serve, set up, take down, or just be there to lend a hand in whatever fashion we need. Please tell all fathers, mothers, brothers, sisters, grandparents and friends about it! Bring a chair, sunscreen, hat and camera! If you have never attended a St. Martin of Tours Sports Day, please join the fun and be a part of our tradition. It is a special day that you will treasure for years to come.
The Sports Day Committee, along with SMT faculty, organizes the day to ensure it will run smoothly and be loads of fun for students and their families. We could never accomplish this task without your helpful participation in terms of donating your time, skills, energy, spirit and, of course, monetary contributions. There is no separate budget for these activities, equipment, supplies or to support food provisions. Your Sports Day Fund donations enable the Sports Day Committee to replenish supplies needed for the day and underwrite the costs for lunch for the kids and adults.
VOLUNTEERS NEEDED – PLEASE, PLEASE HELP!!!
Each year approximately 150 volunteers are needed to make Sports Day successful. We appreciate any help. No experience is necessary. A variety of positions are available, including: event supervisors and coordinators, judges, score keepers, field set-up, clean up and much more. Volunteers will find the sporting events riveting and fun filled. At the same time, you have a chance to meet and chat with other SMT families, while providing a memorable service to our children. On your calendars write “SPORTS DAY” on Friday, May 21st!!! Plan ahead to take the WHOLE day, or part of it, off from work or other activities. We will do our best to accommodate individual requests for time slots for those who have other obligations that day. Please choose your events and return the Volunteer Slip to school by THURSDAY, MAY 5th, by registering online at the SMT website.
REMEMBER, YOUR HELP IS IMPORTANT TO THE CHILDREN AND TO SMT. WITHOUT
PARENTS, OLDER SIBLINGS, FRIENDS OR OTHER FAMILY MEMBERS VOLUNTEERING TO RUN THE EVENTS, OUR CHILDREN WOULD NOT HAVE A FUN FILLED SPORTS DAY!!!
GOURMET BARBECUE LUNCH FOR ADULTS
Dawn Gallo and her crew will be catering a barbecue lunch for the adults (tri-tip and salmon). This luncheon has become one of the highlights of Sports Day. They will provide a fantastic luncheon for the parents, friends, guests and faculty. Each lunch ticket costs $10.00. Please consider making an additional donation to assist in funding this tradition. The ticket costs only cover a portion of the food expense. You may enclose your donation with your packet. If you have any questions, please contact Kelly Daigle at (310) 472-6876. Everyone that attends Sports Day is invited to dine on Dawn’s gourmet cuisine, picnic style with the kids. You must purchase a ticket to eat the lunch. In order to insure that we have plenty of food, please respond in advance to advise us how many from your family will be dining with us. No one will be able to eat without a pre-purchased ticket.
We rely completely on monetary donations to pay for this lunch.
HOT LUNCH FOR STUDENTS
Don’t worry about packing a lunch for the athletes because lunch will be served to the children. Kelly Daigle will be supervising the lunch and needs volunteers to help set-up and serve that day. If you have any questions, please contact Joyce Keith at (310) 476-8289.
PERMISSION SLIPS
Every student participating in Sports Day MUST return a signed permission slip to his/her homeroom teacher by THURSDAY, MAY 5th. One permission slip per student please. Those who do not return a slip will not be permitted to participate. NO EXCEPTIONS!!!
ATTENDANCE
Sports Day is a regular school day, and attendance is mandatory. If your child will not be able to participate for any reason, please notify Coach Brewster immediately! He has spent many hours organizing teams and events to make them fair.
Students must return to school with their class for 3:00 pm dismissal. No one may leave with a parent or guardian from Barrington Park
