Q.  What type of school is St. Martin of Tours School?

  1. R. St. Martin of Tours School was founded in 1954 and is a Catholic co-educational elementary school for Grades Kindergarten through Eight.

  1. Q. How many students are at St. Martin of Tours?
  2. R. St. Martin of Tours has approximately 250 students. We have only one class per grade and each grade has approximately 25-30 students. In Grades Kindergarten through 5 there is an aide in the classroom along with the teacher.

  1. Q. Is there a required age to begin Kindergarten?
  2. R. Yes, a child must be at least 5 years of age by July 1 of the year they are to begin Kindergarten.

    Q. Are non-Catholics admitted?
  1. R. Yes, approximately 20% of our student body is non-Catholic. All students are required to participate in Religion class and attend Mass.

Q. Is St. Martin of Tours School accredited?

  1. R. Yes, by both the Western Association of Schools and Colleges and the Western Catholic Education Association.

  2. Q. What can you tell me about the faculty and staff?
  1. R. All teachers are credentialed and most have higher degrees. Most of our teacher aides are also credentialed. We also have an Athletic Director, Librarian and certified Health and Safety Coordinator.

  2. Q. What subjects are taught?
  1. R. Our curriculum includes: Religion, English, Literature, Mathematics, Science, Social Studies, Foreign Language, Computer Science, Art, Music and Physical Education.

  2. R. Spanish is taught in Kindergarten through Grade 5. Latin is taught in Grades 6 through 8.

  3. Q. How is technology used in the classroom?
  1. All classrooms are equipped with SmartBoards and EACH teacher and aide has a laptop with classroom internet access.  The computer lab has a state-of-the-art network with thirty-nine Mac desktops.  In addition, forty Mac laptops and an iPad cart with 31 units are available for classroom use.

 

  1. Q. Does St. Martin of Tours participate in any academic activities?
  2. R. St. Martin of Tours is proud to participate in many activities for both personal achievement and school competition. We participate in the National Geographic Geography Bee, the Daughter of the American Revolution Essay Contest and Science Fair. Junior High students have an opportunity to join the Academic Decathlon team which competes against over 100 other Catholic schools.


Q. What are some of the high schools that St. Martin of Tours graduates attend?
R. Our students have the opportunity to attend their first choice of area high schools consisting of: Loyola, Crespi, Notre Dame High School, Marymount, Notre Dame Academy, Louisville, Marlborough, Harvard-Westlake and Brentwood to name a few.

 

  1. Q. Does St. Martin of Tours offer a sports program?
  2. R. In addition to the required Physical Education classes, St. Martin of Tours belongs to the Catholic Youth Organization (CYO) and participates in competitive sports. Beginning in Grade 3, students may participate in flag football, volleyball, basketball and track & field.

 

  1. Q. What other extracurricular activities are offered?
  2. R. Many after school activities are offered for a wide range of ages, such as: robotics, choir, golf, chess, book club, Irish dancing and drama to name a few.

  1. Q. Is there any after-school care?
  2. R. Yes, we offer two programs for after school care: Homework Club, offered Monday through Thursday from 3:15-4:15 p.m. A teacher is available to help students get a jump start on their homework. Also, "After-School Care" is offered Monday through Friday from 3:15-6:00 p.m. Two teachers are available to help with homework and to also provide a snack and outside play.

  3. Q. How does St. Martin of Tours annual tuition compare with other private elementary schools?
    R. St. Martin of Tours School provides a superior elementary education at a cost considerably lower than other private schools.  Parent involvement and annual fundraisers make enrichment programs possible and help keep tuition affordable for most Westside families.

  2. R. St. Martin of Tours is pleased to offer two choices: every Thursday, we offer a Hot Lunch program provided by our parents. We also offer Campus Kitchens which delivers your lunch order to our school EVERY other day of the week. Also, many students bring their own “brown bag” lunch.
